Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Responsible for transferring new fiber laser products from R&D to manufacturing, hands-on individual who will work with engineering to learn and document the product, participate in new product design reviews from a design for manufacturing (DFM) perspective, evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards, interact with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, assist in the generation of mechanical part and assembly level drawings, create method sheets, assembly and test procedures, assist with production planning, track yield and perform root cause analysis of product failures, drive trouble shooting of manufacturing problems, analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

Requirements:

  • B.S. or higher degree in lasers, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or related field
  • Minimum of five years experience in design and manufacturing processes, preferably in photonics or related field
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Resource Planning principles and techniques
  • Demonstrated product line responsibility – preferably working with new product development
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Basic understanding of Financials (Balance Sheet, P&L, and Cash Flow)
  • Past experience as a coach and trainer in a manufacturing environment
  • Computer skills -MS office, ability to design and draft using Pro/Engineer preferred
  • Experience working in an ISO compliant facility is desirable
  • Prior experience with CDRH compliance a plus

Title: Research Scientist

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Research, and study the structures and physical and chemical properties of optical materials to develop ultrafast and low-temperature devices for high power pulsed laser and ultrashort pulsed laser systems. Develop new concept of temporal and spectral pulse evolution and photosynthetic energy transfer in the complex laser system for achieving high energy short pulsed laser output.

Requirements:

  • Master’s in Physics or Materials Science with coursework or research background in ultrafast laser systems, photosynthetic energy transfer, low-temperature spectroscopy, and quantum optics;
  • 3 years’ experience in job offered or as doctoral student or researcher involving research in laser system.
  • Will accept any combination of education, training, or experience.

Title: Senior Optical Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Calmar Laser Inc. has an opening for a senior optical engineer. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing high power fiber amplifier products, especially for ultrashort pulsed lasers. The knowledge and hands-on experience of double-clad fiber amplifiers are essential part of qualification. The responsibility includes designing various double-clad fiber amplifiers at 1 µm and 1.55 µm wavelengths, especially for ultrashort pulsed lasers, evaluating various specialty active/passive fibers and identifying suitable optical fibers, and developing specialty fiber splicing/cleaving/recoating techniques. Prototyping and delivery of customized demo units to specific customers are also essential part of job function.

Requirements:

  • MSc in physics, EE, or related fields with 5+ year experience (PhD preferred)
  • Experience of designing and building high power double-clad fiber lasers and amplifiers
  • Hands-on experience with various equipments such as power meters, OSA, oscilloscope, especially fiber splicer, cleaver, etc.
  • Good working attitude especially of meeting deadlines of deliverables in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of nonlinear fiber optics, especially femtosecond pulse propagation inside optical fiber, is a plus.

Title: Project Lead

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Responsible for developing new products as well as improving existing products by creating breakthrough technology in ultrashort pulsed fiber laser, provide technical lead for a group of engineers, assist management team to achieve the goal of company by aligning individual contribution coherently with each other. The candidate shall have profound physical understanding of femtosecond fiber oscillator and amplifiers, dispersion of various fibers, fiber amplifiers, specialty fibers including photonic crystal fiber, large mode area fibers, etc. and in-depth knowledge with double-clad fiber amplifier.

Requirements:

  • PhD in EE, Physics, or related fields with 5+ year of industrial experience in R&D environments
  • Experience with project management, leading an interdisciplinary team
  • Thorough knowledge on various nonlinearity in optical fibers, including SPM, SRS, SBS, and dispersion of fibers
  • Thorough and hands-on knowledge on femtosecond pusle propagation/amplification in optical fibers.
  • Strongly self-motivated

Title: Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Calmar Laser Inc. is looking for a talented opto-mechanical engineer for R&D projects, with a good potential to grow with company. The successful candidate designs and analyzes opto-mechanical systems for R&D development in high power lasers, featuring system assemblies, equipments, and motion control. He/she specifies, procures, and qualifies new opto-mechanical system, as well as performing structural (FEA) and thermal tolerance analysis of designed system. Pin-pointing the structural defects based on a long-term testing and creatively improving the designs are important. The candidate should learn new knowledge in optics and electronics as a complete subsystem designer and builder.

Requirements:

  • MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or BS with 2+ year experience)
  • Strong hands-on experiences in 3D modeling tools (AutoCad, ProE, SolidWorks, etc)
  • Solid education in structural and thermal mechanical analysis
  • knowledge on optical and mechanical material properties is a big plus
  • Strong willingness to self-learn new opto-mechanical technologies under development
  • Knowledge on Gaussian beam propagation and basic electronics is a big plus
