Title: Optical Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

As a member of R&D team to assist in overall development of the next generation ultrafast fiber laser products. Key responsibilities include

  1. Responsible in building and developing ultrafast fiber laser, including both fiber and free space optic assemblies. Perform system level testing and diagnosing.
  2. Understanding Key physical phenomena which influence laser performances both through experimental and theoretical analysis. Collecting and analyzing experimental data.
  3. Work closely with a small engineering team that includes electrical, mechanical and software engineers to identify the root causes of the interdisciplinary problems and generate creative engineering solutions.
  4. Understand system requirements, define components specifications and conduct component qualification test.
  5. Documentation of the optical design and modification, test methodology, component specifications
  6. Work closely with the manufacturing team to transfer the prototype R&D design to manufacturing. Train manufacturing personnel; help resolve manufacturing and testing challenges on the production line.

Requirements:

  • M.S. or higher degree in optics or laser physics (or equivalent)
  • Good understanding in fiber lasers in general, previous experience in ultrafast optics a strong plus.
  • Strong hands-on experience in fiber optics, table-top experiments and testing procedures. Familiar with typical fiber optics equipments such as fusion splicer, cleaver and high precision optical assembly processes. Previous experience in handling large mode area fiber a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience in free-space optical alignment of laser systems. Familiar with beam quality measurement tools.
  • Previous experience in different aspects of product life cycle a strong plus.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and across functional boundaries inside the company.
  • Self-motivated with good interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent documentation and computer skills.

Title: Software Engineer

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Calmar Laser is seeking a software engineer with experience in C/C++ to develop embedded software for laser control and monitoring, including writing and implementing Calmar Laser custom firmware for advanced laser control and monitoring.

  • Develop specifications and write embedded software/firmware for control, monitoring, and data acquisition of ultrafast fiber laser systems.
  • Research and write control algorithms for proper laser operation
  • Collaborate with scientists, electrical engineers, and others engineers to develop monitoring and control applications.
  • Develop and implement software and hardware test plans for verifying the reliability and safety of products, especially for medical use.
  • Write and maintain a LabView interface for customers and internal production.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, EE, physics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years in experience in C/C++ programming for embedded systems, ideally on the Digi (Rabbit) or embedded FPGA platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven documentation skills.
  • Experience with LabView is a plus
  • Experience with FPGAs is a plus, especially Xilinx Spartan.
  • Experience with MS Visual C/C# is a plus.

Title: Physicist

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

Research and study the architecture of state-of-the-art chirped pulse amplification fiber laser to develop high-energy ultrashort pulsed laser systems. Design and study frequency conversion in nonlinear crystals to develop the next generation ultrafast laser in the visible and UV. Design and study various double-clad fiber amplifiers at 1 µm and 1.55 µm wavelengths, evaluating various specialty active/passive fibers and identifying suitable optical fibers, and developing specialty fiber splicing/cleaving/recoating techniques. Design and develop suitable optomechanical fixtures for various ultrafast laser systems.

Requirements:

Ph.D. in Physics, Optoelectronics, or related major with doctoral thesis on optical devices or laser, and research background in ultrafast laser system, ultrashort optical pulses, and fiber amplification system.

Title: Laser Technician

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

This is an Laser Technician/Manufacturing Engineer position that will work with optical engineering group for optical assembly and test. You are required to follow procedures to make and test laser system. You will work with a team of engineers and other manufacturing professionals to solve problems in the manufacturing process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor or above in Optics, Laser, EE, Physics or 5+ year hands-on experience on laser engineering or fiber optics or related fields.
  • Hands-on fiber splicer, cleaver and optical test instruments (optical power meter, optical spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope and so on).
  • Strong background in fiber component handle, test and use. Understand component data specifications.
  • Can handle multi tasks.
  • Excellent team player with exceptional communications skills, documentation capability, good attitude and energetic.

Title: Electronics Technician

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

This is an Electronics Test Technician position that will support manufacturing operations for testing, debugging and assembling printed circuit boards. In this role, you will help to prepare BOM and bring up PCB fabrication and assembly for manufacture requirement. You are required to follow procedures to test and debug PCB circuits, and assemble PCB into our instruments in which opto-electronics/mechanical/software/firmware was integrated. You will help to load software/firmware and run prescribed test. You will work with a team of engineers, test technicians and other manufacturing professionals to solve customer PCB board design, test and operational challenges in support of contract manufacturing.

Requirements:

  • Have at least an A.A./A.S. degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field. A B.S. degree (while not required) is a plus.
  • Must have extensive electronic bench testing experience with PCB boards down to the component level using oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters and spectrum analyzers.
  • Able to read a variety of electronic schematics, diagrams and detailed electronic circuit procedure documentation.
  • Very handy in soldering skill, capable of repairing and replacing components at board level.
  • Able to handle ESD sensitive components. Fiber optical experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong background in electronic theory and practical applications of component level testing with resistors, capacitors, transistors, inductors and diodes.
  • Excellent team player with exceptional communications skills, documentation capability and work ethic.

Title: Operation/Office Assistant

Location: Sunnyvale, CA

Job Description:

The primary focus of operation assistance are on: inventory management including stock room, fixed assets, office supply and non-conforming items; outgoing shipments being packed, processed and shipped to customers on time; incoming items being received; quantity and quality being accorded with orders, damaged items being identified and recorded and returned to vendors. The primary focus of office assistance are on: assisting both Agile and QB bookkeeping; assisting AR and AP accounting documents process; contacting vendors and customers as assigned on accounting issues; filing documentation and controlling datasheet; greeting visitors and answer phones (light volume); managing janitors and break room. This position maintains, develops and implements procedures for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • High School or GED degree required
  • Shipment entry (UPS, FedEx, and/or DHL) experience required
  • Stockroom experience required
  • Basic computer skills required and must be able to type accurately
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities while paying close attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
